![]() So they say. They all said that. They said it would be a long, cold winter. They say coffee is loaded with antioxidents. They say we should change our passwords annually. They say research shows… They said this. They said that. Did you ever wonder who ‘they’ are? They apparently know everything about all that is and all that ever was. They even seem to be able to predict the future. Really, who are the omniscient ‘They’? I decided to do some investigating to see if there were any clues as to who ‘They’ might be. I consulted with Professor Google, social media, the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian, the UNESCO library and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. There were no accounts or pages belonging to ‘They.’ No references to, quotes by, hints, innuendos or anything specifically related to ‘They.’ Next I researched Mystics, Elders, sages, Gurus, prophets, oracles, old crones, Carnac the Magnificent, but nothing definitive stood out. However, there were indicators sprinkled in amongst the general information about each of the seers. Those clues sparked some theories, which has me wondering if any of you reading this have some ideas as to who ‘They’ might be. If so, feel free to share. What scares me would be discovering that the omniscient ‘They’ is actually some kid with a Magic 8 Ball. Comments are welcomed.

When I think about romance, the last thing on my mind is a short, chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon.” There are folks who have a very difficult time on Valentine’s Day. Usually, it is because they do not have a partner for any number of reasons and that is understandable. I’ve been with and without a partner, but I have always totally enjoyed Valentine’s Day. I will share with you the rose colored lens through which I view this day of amour. It began in the early years of grade school. We got to show off our artistic talents as we decorated old shoe boxes with red and pink and white construction paper. Sound familiar? These “ mail boxes” had to be ready to receive delivery of all those Valentine’s cards that would be coming our way. Who would the cards be from? Would there be a secret admirer? Then the big day came. We made our deliveries to our classmates mail boxes. You remember those corny, cartoon character Valentine’s cards that were so wonderful? I love them to this day. There was always some kid who didn’t sign his or her card. If you were lucky, you got one signed Your Secret Admirer. Fun ensued trying to figure out who might be crushing on you. Fast forward a few decades. Those interim years were ordinary and unnoteworthy. When I was teaching, I rediscovered the joy of my youth. Another teacher and I got together and decided to create a Valentine for every staff member, including the custodial staff and post them on one of the large school walls. Each card was tailored to the individual. We followed the format of those corny kids cards. Everyone loved them and looked forward to getting a card each year. My colleague in poetry from the humorous heart and I also looked forward to creating new rhymes. We continued this mini tradition until I retired from the school. Since that time, I found several ways to still enjoy Valentine’s Day. Many folks can use a little cheering up whether a friend, a child, a relative, even a stranger . We can always share a goofy card, a candy heart, a flower, a smile, some form of good wishes. It’s a chance to use your own unique style to let someone know they matter. I hope you all discover some unexpected delight this week. Comments are welcomed. ![]() What is the color of whimsy? Outrageous orange? Razzle Dazzle Rose? Fuzzy Wuzzy Brown? Bippity Boppity Blue? What is the sound of whimsy? Household appliances talking amongst themselves? Elves tap dancing on the roof? Stars tinkling like bells in the night sky? What does whimsy look like? A unicorn farm? A wizard living in your spare room? A secret stash of pixie dust? When I opened a window whimsy blew in. The tea kettle, usually quiet and unobtrusive, began whistling Zippity Do Da. Then some of the neighborhood fairies gathered in my dining room for tea and Petit Fours and gossip. There was Hazel Tumblefluff, Nettie Bramblebell, Fiona Frostglitter, Pearl Dewdrop and Crystal Teaberry. They prattled on about the goings on in the neighborhood. It seems Max Milkthistle, who knew all about herbs, was concocting a new remedy to cure something or other. Henry Horsefeathers, the fairy funmeister, was flying around trying out some new jokes. Then the chatter came to Petal Plumblossom, the fancy-girl fairy. She wore fancy clothes, fancy shoes, fancy hats and flounced around with her fancy airs. My guests found her most irksome. Suddenly the tea and Petit Fours were gone and my friends said they must be off before Hyacinth Picallili realized their absence. Hyacinth would head straight to King Ober and Queen Mae to tattle and try to get them in trouble. The fairies said they would return and I was to make sure I had plenty of tea and cakes ready. What is the color of whimsy? What does whimsy look like? Only you can answer that for yourself. Let your imagination and creativity jump start the fun. As I’ve mentioned in other posts, research has shown creativity, play and fun are key ingredients for good health and well-being. So, what color is your whimsy? Comments are welcomed. |
